6 weeks

6 weeks, or rather 42 days. That is the proposed length that one can hold a terror suspect if a bill in the UK becomes a law. The sad part is that it passed by 9 votes- exactly the number of people on the DUP, which is rumored to have recieved a 200 million pound concession for its vote.

Another conession was a pledge to reimburse those that were detained up to $6,000 a day. There are two problems with that- a pledge means nothing. So many school children are made to recite the Pledge of Allegiance without knowing its meaning. It is an empty promise, nothing was written down.
Additionally, no amount of money can account for the loss of freedom for well over a month. Putting a per diem on freedom is not only impossible, it is disgusting.

Terrorists want to disrupt the lifestyles of their targets. They want to instill fear, and this erosion of rights is exactly the reaction they are looking for. The UK way of life may be changed dramatically. It seems the Magna Carta has little to no meaning anymore, despite the fact that it is hailed even in the US as a document that defends freedom.

I'd like to applaud Davis for sticking to his beliefs, and resigning in protest. Hopefully, his actions will have more clout than those of an angry blogger across the pond.
